Thump User Review.

Oakley ThumpWe mentioned the Oakley Thump back in August and September, but one of our gracious readers has sent us a mini-review on the product they bought at Christmas.

I should mention that I’ve no affiliation with Oakley, but I am interested in ‘wearable computing’ and I do sell and service Personal Area Networks [PAN’s] through my business. I believe the ‘Thumps’ are great for any one serious about outdoor sports because of the ‘duality’ of the unit. They are a great set of
sport sunglasses and the Mp3 player works very well. I’ve no problems with the sound quality or level and I can easily hear ambient noise.I love the fact there are no wires, and the ear buds don’t get caught up in hats or cycling helmets as headphones sometimes do. The fact that the lenses pop up easily for indoor use means I listen to music whilst doing mundane things like shopping or research in libraries.

I’ve been using my “Oakley Thumps” for a month now. They are a great set of Oakley sunglasses with a built in 256mb mp3 player. The December issue of ‘Wired’ listed them, and I brought my pair from the surf shop in Bondi Junction Westfield. At the time, the salesguy told me they were one of twelve pairs in Australia, which sounded right as they had just been launched in the U.S.

I prefer them to the Ipod, as they are great for sports. With no wires and the unit in the wraparound frames of the glasses they are very comfortable and the music sounds good too. The ear buds are extendable for a good fit, and the lenses of the glasses are fantastic. A real ‘fit’ for those who like their outdoor activity and their music. I’ve had 3.5 hours of music stored, with space left, and the battery as yet to be depleted on a daily charge.

Thanks for the email Kevin.
