iTunes 4.9 to support podcasting
Steve Jobs has stated that iTunes 4.9 will add the ability to directly subscribe to podcasts (no word as to when we can expect iTunes 4.9 to be available).
Now, if only Apple would add the ability to add labelled chapter markers to audiobooks/podcasts, I’d be a very happy man.

Hi Kap,
Thanks for your blog.
I’m wondering if you’ve found any way to add these chapter marks to podcasts. Apparently there’s a beta version of an OSX app to do this, but I’m on PC and have no way to test it. Have you heard anything?
Best regards.

Not yet - I’ve been fiddling around with iTunes 4.9 for a few hours now. It doesn’t seem to let you add these bookmarks directly from within iTunes yet (which I think is a great pity).
The only podcast I’ve found which even uses these bookmarks so far is Apple’s own iTunes New Music Tuesday podcast (the podcast has to be AAC to use these bookmarks apparently).

The beta app you were referring to is a command line application (OS X only - still no help for Windows users), available at:
http://homepage.mac.com/applepodcas…r_tool_beta.dmg
It basically takes a .m4a audio file and an xml file and generates a .m4b audio file (i.e. an audio file that can have chapter markers, etc).
I’ve tried it out and it’s lots of fun (disappointing that it can’t be used on other formats though esp. Audible’s .aa format).
