iiNet Realeases New Plans With Up To 8000k Speeds.

iiNet Broadband2

iiNet have just released their much anticipated new broadband bundles. Since they started putting in place their own DSLAMs into exchanges they’ve discussed the new, faster, cheaper bundles. Up to 8000k, up from 1500k.

In a revolutionary move for Australia’s broadband market, iiNet Limited (ASX: IIN) unveiled its new iibroadband2 range, the next generation of broadband. While most other providers’ broadband speeds start from 256 to a maximum of 1500 kbps, iiNet’s new broadband product suite only has fast speeds, with all plans starting at 1500 kbps, going up to 8000 kbps.

If you’re on an eligible DSLAM and you choose to bundle your broadband account with iiphone full service, you can expect speeds of up to 8000k, as fast as your line can go!

As always, the exact speed your line will reach determined by the distance you are from your exchange and the quality of your line. Additional factors to be aware of include signal strength, the number of joins in your line, and factors within your home such as unfiltered devices and lengthy phone cords.

Starting at $29.95, the pay as you go (PAYG) plan with a $59.95 cap, will provide up to 8000k. From there the bundles go up to a $99.95 plan with a 40+40GB quota and no iiPhone bundled (save $10 with the iiPhone addition). Be aware though, that the bliink zone, free traffic between local networks, no longer applies. Now they only allow free traffic to their own news, ftp and game servers.

Speaking of iiPhone. They now also offer $29.95 line rental and 18 cent local calls. Which as Simon has kindly pointed out, isn’t a patch on Skype calls at 3 cents per minute or free to other Skype users. We’ll see what iiNet’s VOIP plans bring.

Update : (February 1, 2005) For some lucky people already on iiNet’s DSLAMs, and applied earlier today, have been converted to the new plans.

Let’s start an unofficial, iibragging rights, competition. The fastest so far is 4576 kbps down, 896 kbps up. Not as quick as others reported, so an easy one to beat.

Some info that might be handy for existing iiNet customers. If you use the upgrade link on the iiNet website, and you live in a house, don’t choose “House” from the building type dropdown on the form. Choose “Not Applicable” because otherwise it won’t recognise that you live in a house!

Just saved you 15 minutes on hold!

  2. Just to add to bragging.. I get around 760k/s down and 100k/s up. Of course, rarely is there a site by itself that can do either of those. But I have found the best non-iinet test site is archive.org. I just quite happily downloaded 4 250meg(ish) video files from that site without noticing any lag on the link. With 4 running at the same time each was around 130k/s (I think archive.org rate limits each individual download)

Its all good. Very very good.

I gots me 7616kb download and 1024kb upload. I did the adsl.test2 from http://ftp.iinet.net.au and got 804kbps. Nice.

Admittedly I live about 100 metres from the exchange, which helps.

Adding to the bragging rights, I downloaded 680mb in under 14 minutes last night.. line speed is at 8164 from memory, and getting 770ish speeds from iinet ftp.

Now to decide what I’m going to download..

These new plans are proving to be less popular than expected. http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-threads.cfm?f=72

7168 down, 928 up, according to the modem interface. Of course, I’m 1000km away…so I can’t use it…my wife is saying she hasn’t noticed the difference.

    Sheesh. Chicks.
