Telstra trials ADSL extension
Telstra is set to enable an extension on ADSL distance limits. By increasing the allowable transmission loss from 56dB to 80dB, they hope to allow those currently beyond the approximately 3.5km limit from the exchange to get access to their broadband network. No word on how far this will increase the transmission distance, but 1000 subscribers will partake in the trial for the new few months. The Telstra press release indicates that it’s invite only, and participants must have previously expressed a desire for ADSL and be beyond the current maximum distance from the exchange.
The press release claims that at the end of the trial, the participants will have to return the equipment and their broadband will be removed.
