Ken Kutaragi aka ‘Father of the PlayStation’ has decided to retire from his role as chairman and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc (SCEI). He helped make PlayStation what it is today, the world?¢‚Ç¨‚Ñ¢s most popular video game brand.
Kutaragi developed the original PlayStation as well as the PS2 and he was also instrumental in the development and launch of the PlayStation 3 and due to this has become a minor celebrity in his home country, Japan.
Kutaragi will assume the role of honorary chairman of SCEI, and act as future technology adviser to Sony’s chairman and CEO Sir Howard Stringer. He will be replaced by current president Kaz Hirai on 19 June.
