BBC plans online world for children

The BBC have announced plans to create a children?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s MMO (massively multiplayer online game) for ?¢‚Ǩ?ìdigitally literate children?¢‚Ǩ¬ù. The game imaginatively titled, CBBC World, will allow children between the ages of 7 and 12 years old to interact with each other in a safe environment.

The users will build an online presence called an avatar to create and share content similar to other online worlds such as Second Life. However, unlike Second Life, CBBC World will not have the financial aspects that SL has come well known for.

Details of how the world will work and what it’s likely to cost were not immediately available but those building CBBC World said the emphasis would be on safety and responsibility, with no chat rooms or facilities for building new parts of the virtual world.
