Virgin Games to offer game download service

Virgin Games have teamed up with Game Domain International to create a new service that will allow consumers to buy and download PC games from the internet onto their computers.

The project, which is called ?¢‚Ǩ?ìA World of My Own?¢‚Ǩ¬ù (AWOMO), hopes to revolutionise the way games are sold.

Virgin’s chairman, Sir Richard Branson believes that the service will do for pc games what itunes has done for music.

The success of the service will depend on the download speeds of which the two companies promise will be fast and support from games publishers. The two companies claimed to have many game publishers on board such as Koch Media.

The AWOMO platform is due to launch later in 2007, with “a large selection of games available.” The companies are expecting international demand to be high.
