Apple Updates Powerbook

17" PowerbookApple have updated their Powerbook range. The G5 doesn’t make an appearance yet, but the processor speeds have been increased to 1.67 and 1.6 GHz, depending on the model you purchase. New trackpads, faster and larger hard drives, 8x Superdrives and their dual link DVI output also feature on the new models.

You can also rest a little easier about your data if you happen to drop your Powerbook now. Apple have seen fit to include an accelerometer to detect, in all three dimensions, sudden movement that could damage hard drives. If a sudden motion is detected, then your hard drive heads are immediately parked to prevent damage. Neato. Prices have dropped a couple of hundred dollars across the range as well.

The integrated Bluetooth has been upgraded to version 2, and the trackpads now support a unique scrolling method. One of the things that’s always bugged us at Gadget Lounge about our Powerbooks was the lack of native scrolling support. We’d added it to the trackpads abilities by installing third party software. Now that Apple have enabled it as standard, we’d like to trade our Powerbooks in. Who wants to buy an only slightly used Powerbook or two?

Is it possible to find a large (100 gigs or more) internal hard drive for my G4 Titanium that I can install? I’d also like to install a super drive in my Titanium.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
