Microsoft Portable Media Center Reality Check.
Microsoft has been talking about the Portable Media Center (PMC) for some time. Everyone’s expecting to see something later this year from some of the OEMs, but some lucky people have seen prototypes. In the mean time ExtremeTech have given their opinion based on a few those they’ve seen. It’s worth a read, even just for a reality check.
“And the big “if” in all of this is whether your PC can actually suck up video and record it to your hard drive. According to market research firm In-Stat, only 7% of the PCs today can even hope to record video. If your PC can’t, you’re out $500 bucks.”
The article gives you an idea why Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO, says he they won’t be making a portable video player. It sounds strangely familiar to what he said in an interview in January.
