Super Sizing Wifi.
“Throughout November, anyone with a WiFi-capable laptop or handheld device can stop into any of the 150 McDonald’s restaurants now offering a Telstra Wireless Hotspot to trial the service free for one hour – by asking for a Telstra Wireless Hotspot Access Kit at the counter.”
Currently the majority of sites exist in NSW and Victoria, with three in Queensland, two in Perth and Adelaide, and none in the Northern Territory, the ACT and Tasmania. You can see the list of Maccas that currently have the hotspots available at Telstra’s Hotspot Location site. They plan to have 400 country wide by the middle of next year. More interesting is the 15 Payphones that have been fitted with the hardware. Soon there could be one at a park or beach near you.
Apparently there are limited kits available, so be quick. If you want to continue the use you “will be charged a minimum fee of $5 per Telstra Wireless Hotspot login session, This includes the first 15 minutes of use. After the first 15 minutes, a charge of 20 cents per minute (or part minute) applies.” Alternatively there a small number of Monthly Subscription Plans that mean slightly cheaper rates.
You can find more details in the Telstra Press Release.
